Lynx

The Lynx is a spring-powered bullpup blaster designed by Orion Blasters. It is one of the most common spring-powered bullpups in competitive play, in large part because of its compact form factor. It feeds from Talon magazines with gravity drop and is primed by a foregrip mounted on a Picatinny rail. Real-world velocity is around 200 to 250 fps; for higher velocity a Lonx is recommended, and for lower a Minx. The printable files are hosted on Orion Blasters’ website, and the hardware kit is sold by Out of Darts for $75.

Build & quality

The Lynx’s fire control group is weaker than average: the trigger and sear interface is small and can be prone to breakage. Chassis stiffness is moderate, on par with most 3D-printed blasters, and is generally only a concern when pushing the upper limits of the blaster. The Lynx is suitable as a first build. The parts are designed to print with minimal supports, all fit an A1-sized build plate.

Ergonomics

Priming is done with a foregrip mounted on a Picatinny rail, which can be swapped with the user’s choice. The main grip and the stock are both fixed, with no adjustment if the stock geometry does not suit the user. Sling points are built in. The Lynx as sold by Out of Darts. The foregrip shown is not included with purchase.

Maintenance

Maintenance is straightforward. A single takedown pin at the front releases the spring and plunger for cleaning or replacement, and two thumb screws secure the barrel, allowing it to be swapped without tools. Spring pre-compression can be adjusted by loosening or tightening the lock nuts on the plunger.

Verdict

The Lynx is a well-established option in competitive play. At $75 the kit is relatively affordable, and it disassembles faster than most blasters in its class. Its main drawbacks are inherent to the bullpup layout: the design requires a turnaround, which adds complexity and maintenance compared to a conventional layout such as the Worker Seagull or the ONTOS. For a bullpup that sits within the fps range common to most American games, the Lynx is a strong choice. Also consider the Lonx or Minx variations depending on your dart velocity needs.
